The Nature & Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Soul Healing

We are created in the image of God, a trinity – Spirit, Soul and Body.

We are a spirit:

    • eternal

    • born again or dead in sin

    • alive

    • communicates with God

    • communion with Holy Spirit

We have a soul:

    • mind

    • will

    • emotions

    • inner you

    • gets wounded

    • gets attacked

We live in a body:

    • flesh

        • will die

        • shell

        • glove

We feed our soul and spirit just like our body… but what kind of food?

TV, movies, music, words…all go into the soul.

John 6:63  It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.  ~  Jesus

    1. God alone satisfies the soul.

Psalms 107:9 For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.

Psalm 35:9 And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord; It shall rejoice in His salvation.

Matthew 11:29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

    1. Man sins against his own soul.

Proverbs 6:32 Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul.

Proverbs 8:36 But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; All those who hate me love death.”

Ezekiel 18:4 “Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.

    1. Our soul is hungry and thirsty.

Psalm 42:1-2 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?

Psalm 63:1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.

Psalm 63:5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.

Psalm 63:8 My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.

    1. We can pour out our soul in prayer to God.

1 Samuel 1:10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish.

1 Samuel 1:15 But Hannah answered and said, “No, my lord, I am a woman of sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor intoxicating drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord.

    • Our soul is of extreme & eternal value.

Mark 8:36-37 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

Luke 12:20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’

Matthew 16:26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

    • We can have godly soul ties.

David & Jonathan:

1 Samuel 18:1 Now when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

1 Samuel 18:3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.

Acts 4:32 Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common.

2 Corinthians 12:15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.

    • We can have ungodly soul ties.

Sampson & Delilah:

Judges 16:4-5,16

Afterward it happened that he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.  And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Entice him, and find out where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and every one of us will give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.”

16 And it came to pass, when she pestered him daily with her words and pressed him, so that his soul was vexed to death,

    • The soul can be broken, hurt or wounded.

1 Samuel 1:10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and wept in anguish.

Mark 14:34 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.”

Job 19:2 “How long will you torment my soul, And break me in pieces with words?

Hebrews 12:3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.

1 Peter 2:11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul.

Peter 1:9 Receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls.

    1. Wisdom blesses the soul.

Proverbs 19:8 He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good.

Proverbs 19:16 He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, But he who is careless of his ways will die.

    • The soul can be saved, restored, redeemed.

Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

Psalm 34:22 The Lord redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.

Psalm 49:15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, For He shall receive me.

    • Words affect our soul.

Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.

Proverbs 18:7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul.

    • Greatest commandment is to love the Lord our God with all our heart & soul, strength and mind.

Deuteronomy 6:5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Mark 12:30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.

Mark 12:33 And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

    • We must purify our soul.

1 Peter 1:22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart.

James 1:21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

    • God alone keeps our soul.

1 Peter 2:25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and (Bishop) Overseer of your souls.

1 Peter 4:19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.

Psalms 121:7 The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul.

    • God alone heals the soul.

Psalm 41:4 I said, “Lord, be merciful to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.”

Psalm 23:3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

God wants to heal your soul to HEAL YOUR LIFE!!!

3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

As goes your soul, so goes your life, health, relationships, finances, etc…

Does YOUR soul magnify the Lord???

Luke 1:45 Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”

The Song of Mary

46 And Mary said:

“My soul magnifies the Lord,

47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

HOW?  How is the soul healed or restored?

The Dry Bones Live

Text:  Ezekiel 37

1 The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.

2 Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry.

3 And He said to me, Son of man, can these bones live? So I answered, O Lord God, You know.

4 Again He said to me, Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!

5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live.

6 I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.

7 So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and suddenly a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to bone.

8 Indeed, as I looked, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them over; but there was no breath in them.

9 Also He said to me, Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.

10 So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath came into them, and they lived, and stood upon their feet, an exceedingly great army.

11 Then He said to me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They indeed say, Our bones are dry, our hope is lost, and we ourselves are cut off!

12 Therefore prophesy and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, O My people, I will open your graves and cause you to come up from your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel.

13 Then you shall know that I am the Lord, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up from your graves.

14 I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it, says the Lord.

I.  PROPHECY!!!!!

Change your world with your words!!

Matt. 17:20

So Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Move from here to there, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

Get to know the Breath of God – the precious Holy Spirit.

Genesis 2:7

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

John 7:37-39

37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Not in your own strength, flesh or effort…

Zech. 4:6

So he answered and said to me: This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, Says the Lord of hosts.

Spirit vs. Flesh war…

I Cor. 2:9-15

9 But as it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.

10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

13 These things we also speak, not in words which mans wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.

Be ready!!!  He’s coming!!!   We need the fresh oil of the Holy Spirit!!

Parable of the Ten Virgins

Matt. 25:1-13

1 Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.6 And at midnight a cry was heard: Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him! 7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out. 9 But the wise answered, saying, No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.11 Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us! 12 But he answered and said, Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

I.  We have an enemy.

1 Pe 5:8  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Luke 10:18 And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

Eph. 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

II.  We are at war.

2 Cor. 10: 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.

1 Ti 1:18 This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare,

2 Ti 2:4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please Him who enlisted him as a soldier.

III.  Spiritual warfare is real.

Re 12:7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought,

Re 12:17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

IV.  We have been given armor & weapons to fight & win.

2 Cor. 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds…

Eph. 6:10-18

10  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
